Sophie will share a case study from recent work with a fellow BECBC members showing the importance of upskilling managers so they can make that leap from managing the work to managing the people who manage the work. The message underlying this is that great management improves motivation and engagement and that this in turn improves employee satisfaction, retention and productivity. She'll talk about delegating responsibility as well as tasks, making the sharing of feedback part of everyday activities and the importance of meeting regularly with team members on a 1:1 basis.

Gary will talk about the challenges faced in FE/ HE in recruiting and retaining sufficiently experienced and capable staff to support the education training and skills development of the current and future talent pipeline for W Cumbria to meet employers’ need. The nature, size and scale of the challenge, what steps the college take to address the issue, and how we can work collaboratively with industry to mutual benefit. He'll also share a new programme in the nuclear sector.

Craig will outline the value added/benefits of Subsidised Department for Education Essential Skills Bootcamp Training for upskilling staff to boost productivity.
